Between the Worlds
by Alexandria Economou

I am lifted beyond
All my steps untaken,
All my flights unsure,
On the back of a bay colored mare.
I rise with her steps
To the place above my dreams
And free fall, reluctant
Back to earth,
The place where I exist.
The mare's coat sleek
Reflects the eyes of Ra,
Her glisten in the sunlight is his smile.
Her hoof beats are my heartbeat
Drummed against the ground,
The dirt that I have come from.
I breathe and sweat and choke the dust,
From the place between the worlds.
