I Long to Be Translucent
by Maria Elena B. Mahler

rolling fog pulled gently by fingers
the ripening of lemons with sunlight and songs of bees
a wisp of jasmine lingering in a corner
we toasted our sacred union
our child’s smile splashing in his bath
you and your lover in a glass house
steam on the window as I sip my tea
fallen leaves fading at the end of autumn
dust floating over my empty unmade bed
the breath of those who have breathed their last
moonlight glows in the shadows
where my empty shell lies waiting
