Insects on Rondout Creek
by Jan Garden Castro
hover over the rippling chartreuse surface.
From a distance, these pointillist mites
dance in light on water. When I walk into
the currents or swim, I see their near-invisible
skrim without feeling their so small bodies.
They're food for spiders and perhaps for
yellow and white butterflies and birds
and the erect blue heron dashing their colors
above a landscape of waterfed greens.
