Baptized by the rain
by Jacqueline Craven

I stand in the forest
in the bosom of nature
suckled and soothed in her sanctuary
I am a part of her
she, a part of me

Rain falls in a shimmering sheet
mists hang in a gossamer veil
forest hums in liquid morning
sweet scent of throbbing earth
sounds of water, falling, falling

Cascading cataracts
crystalline pillars,
towering, tumbling to reveling river
enchanted I stand
baptized by the rain
