her love was voiceless-
finding a note i gave
my mother
when i was eight
hidden in her prayer book

                                               i keep hidden
                                               even from myself

turquoise, sapphire, indigo
azure & cobalt
out of my skin
out of my bones blue

                                               the intense white
                                               of chrysanthemums
                                               while making love
                                               i become
                                               a thousand petals

autumn of my life
motherless, fatherless
childless
i gather citron stars
tether them to my heart

Ribbons 2013

                                               pure moonlight‐
                                               three years post cancer
                                               the long surgical scar
                                               fading into the belly
                                               of my womanhood
