Fly Like Angels
by Deborah Russell

I wish that I could touch the sky
But these claws are clenched to earth
My wings are broken, I can not soar
Or fly, I wish that I could touch the sky
And fly like angels do, I've heard it once or more
In sigh, I want to spin and dive in star-eyed mirth
I wish that I could touch the sky
But these claws are clenched to earth.

I wish that I could touch the sky
And live beyond my wildest dreams
Above this mundane insanity - so free
And high, I wish that I could touch the sky
To rest among the highest cloud, to dream without
A cry. I need a dream that's free from schemes
I wish that I could touch the sky
And live beyond my wildest dreams
