Loon Lake
By Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Nights were full of summer
and the days bursting
with the buzz of bees.

Honeycombs and honeysuckle
scented the daytime breeze;
while drifting across the lake,
night blooming jasmine
floated on the dew-laden air.

The echo of loons
as they sang
their whistled songs
on a distant shore
are part of a cherished memory
lingering there

Now the lap of waves lulls me to sleep
to dream of those childhood summers
and the promises we made
but could not keep.

*Nights were full of summer a prompt from James Navé's poem.
