Silent Spring
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

It was a silent spring
no birds sang
no crickets chirped
bees ceased to hum
without pollinators,
buds forgot to bloom
once again they,

in bomb shelters
beneath the dark earth
the air not fit to breathe
impossible to exhale
the poisons

If I dared to sing
it would be

a song of sorrow
