Eagle, Fly
by Cindy M. Hutchings

I saw you stagger and struggle
swoop low to the street for prey

little bird doggin' you all the way

wings outspread half the street wide
white tail feathers steerin' your haphazard flight

back up through tangle of power lines
you and your red baron foe dodged and dived

lookin' like you barely survived

then meekly you lifted your head
rose with each flap of your wings

crossed over busy street
barely above cars

as you flew out of sight

my morning struggles seemed alright
after watching the warrior in you.
