Beach Music
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

This is the music of what happens
when you forget to listen
as you stand
on the fog shrouded beach
skeletal crustaceans
swirl round your ankles
as they mock your shaking knees
the wind dies down to a whisper
but in your ears it is still a symphony
ebb and flow of brine
inches up your calf
your feet gripped
by hard-packed shore line
sister to quicksand
holds you there
mesmerised
the swell and pull
from womb to tomb
the waves roll in with a salty sigh

with wonderment
you gaze
at the storm filled sky
