Chapters in a Book
by Ines M. Weber

First bookmark – we were introduced
By fate, my fate, the one that’s cursed
I wanted to engrave that day
On petals
Scattered all along the way.

Next bookmark – how I tried to run
From you, you, the forbidden one
The thorns you tried to tear away
Kept growing stronger with each day.

More bookmarks – I could not resist
The passion paid with blood and tears
The fragrance which confused my senses
Helped me forget we lived in cages.

Last chapter - now the well dried out
Water all gone, replaced by salt
Nothing is left of our bed.
The rose we fed with all our might
To our surprise was always…dead
