Wagmiza Wasna (Lakota Cookies)
from the kitchen of Sharmagne Leland-St. John

2 cups yellow cornmeal
1 cup oil or lard
1 cup raisins or cranberries or dried choke cherries
1/3 cup brown sugar

Toast the cornmeal in a skillet while constantly stirring it to avoid burning.
Heat the oil and grind the fruit into it. Add the browned cornmeal and brown
sugar. Press the resulting mixture onto a cookie sheet. Let cool on cookie sheet
and eat as soon as it cools.
