Early Winter Scene
by Karen Melander-Magoon

Lace covers
Dry sodden grasses
Small animals scurry over
Embroidered flakes of dew
Paws damp, scatter silk
Dashing skyward over bark
To hidden stores
Stillness hangs suspended
As the frozen morning greets
A lazy sun slipping over melting mountains
Pouring rays of tempered warmth
Upon unraveling lace
And scurrying fur
Slipping into tiny tree caverns
Lined with dry moss
And dry grass
Remnants
