  Windy City 2004
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

the windy city has lost its breath
and soul without you here
streets we used to wander
now empty and alone
memories etched in every paving stone

there was the night you had them
set off extra fireworks from Navy Pier
the street names I had come to know so well
now empty and alone
memories etched in every single stone

our old stomping grounds
Michigan, Huron, Erie, Superior
have all lost their magic spell
now empty and alone
memories etched in every brick and stone

the art galleries echo
but it's your voice I long to hear
explaining all the paintings and sculptures
now empty and alone
memories etched on canvas carved in stone

the windy city has lost its breath
and soul without you here
streets we used to wander
now empty and alone
your memory etched in the marrow of my bone

1928-2002
