To My One and Only Love
by Wilda Morris

Deep waters noiseless are, and this we know,
That chiding streams betray small depth below.
So when love speechless is, she doth express
A depth in love and that depth bottomless.

                  Robert Herrick,
"To His Mistress Objecting to Him Neither Toying Nor Talking"

Deep waters noiseless are, and this we know,
For we have often stood completely still
And watched the wind, that sorceress that blows
And hums across the fields of twirling snow,
And silent watched the fox run up the hill.
Deep waters noiseless are, and this we know,

That chiding streams betray small depth below.
At times we may forget how precious is
Each moment we are given, and tarnish time
With miniscule complaints, may yell or whine
And hide our love in spats, forgetting this:
That chiding streams betray small depth below.

So when love speechless is, she doth express
A greater warmth than ever words can state—
When stillness is not cold and anger-bred—
Infuses all the air when nothing's said.
We know your spirit is my spirit's mate.
So when love speechless is, she doth express

A depth in love and that depth bottomless.
So come my love and in tranquility
Enjoy togetherness and nothing more,
For that is everything to us who pour
Out feelings freely, knowing now the key:
A depth in love and that depth bottomless.
