Good-bye
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Baby left me late last night
And I'm too stunned to cry
Now I'd give anything
Just to say good-bye
Heartache here I come
Make way for your newborn son
How can I forgive her
Knowing what she's done
She came into my life
Bearing poems and flowers
And tales of childhood's memories
To while away the hours
She said I should not leave her
Then asked me down
What road I cared to lead her
That of sunshine
That of rain
Happy days
Or nights of pain
Baby left without a doubt
Without a care inside her
Nor with a single silver tear
For the man who lay beside her

For Paul Rothchild
La Fontaine 1974
