We Can See Tomorrow
by Deborah Russell

If my thoughts could remain
in one hour of this day,
I could probably love you
like a lover gone astray.
But yesterday thoughts
come quickly
like a sudden rain
and all the times you lied
bring misery and pain.
If I could close my eyes
to tomorrow,
hide the past
and all the sorrow -
I could probably love you
like a lover gone astray,
at least, just for a moment-
because a moment never lasts
But it's in the light of day
that moonlight eyes turn grey
the future is the past
and love just fades away
It's in the light of day
we face the truth and walk away.
If your thoughts could remain
in just this hour of this day,
You could probably love me
like a lover gone astray.
If you could close your eyes
to all tomorrows,
hide the past
and all it's sorrows -
You could probably love me
because lovers never last.
But all the times
I lied and cheated
glimmer through the light of day.
So, we face another truth
inside each other's eyes
We can't swim among the lies
of so many yesterdays
like a sudden rain
we recognize tomorrow
and love just fades away.
