Freight Train
by Sharmagne Leland-St .John

Freight train whistles through the town
Flat cars, box cars painted brown
Moon gleams silver upon the track
If I hop that train I won't come back
Sing now Mama sweet and low
Your days go fast but mine go slow

Listen to the wind
Listen to the rain
Listen to the sighin'
Of that East bound train

Engine engine pull your load
Carry me down life's lonesome road
I ain't the type to settle down
I'm not a man who'll hang around
Flat cars, box cars painted brown
They'll be my home from town to town

Live on beans, live on rolls
Sleep in freight cars full of coal
Moon gleams silver upon the track
If I hop that train I won't come back

Children playin' 'round the bend
They wave to me, I wave to them
I can see the dreams behind their eyes
And the red dog barks as the train flies by
At night when the train whistles sweet and slow
She lulls me to sleep 'til the roosters crow

Listen to the wind
Listen to the rain
Listen to the sighin'
Of that Eastbound train

Sing now Mama sweet and low
Your days go fast but mine go slow
Moon gleams silver upon the track
If I hop that train
I won't come back
