Tom Boy
by Jeannie E. Roberts

Unshod
near water's edge
breezes
touch tresses
trace locks
of copper
and chestnut;
strands stir
share the air
with sedges
buoy
beside cattails.

Steeped
in summer
feet ooze
sink
with sunset
roam barefoot
beyond bulrush
in the dimming
flush
of twilight
and back
toward home.
